I am using the term Painting loosely, as they usually contain the same or similar mediums as the pieces on the other pages on this website. In this case, painting is a much longer engagement than others, usually more narrative than my other work. My paintings are also usually physically larger than the other work I create, as the large format keeps me engaged with every aspect of the paintings. On the main page, I speak about moments of doubt and struggle. This can be explained, as it’s been explained to me, as moments of upheaval, forcing the development of images to a stage you wouldn’t have gotten to otherwise. For me, a person with a very physical and large presence, this experience is exerting. The exhaustion I endure through these moments is crucial to my work, as it pushes the work further than somewhere I could’ve imagined in a singular moment. The frustration discourages me from continuing to work on the piece, but when I return to it next, I find it in a very encouraging stage. This is not an experience original to me, as many artists, contemporary and from history, worth looking at, describe something very similar. This page is intentionally kept short to recent work.
