I discovered Printmaking during my time at Montserrat. Though the methods were non-traditional, I was still able to come away with some substantial knowledge and a medium to explore post graduation. Etching, Monotyping, Woodblock Relief Carving and Lithography were some of the processes I’ve engaged the most with. Recently I’ve been looking into ways to re-engage with Printmaking through a painting/drawing lens. I’ve been looking into Frank Auerbach’s etchings, Oliveira and Degas’ Monotypes, along with Munch’s Woodblocks for inspiration, among many others. It sounds basic, but that’s because it is. If I’m looking to depart from the past of Printmaking, the only way to do that is by studying the past decisions others have made in the same medium.
